Types of Bows
Recurve Bow
The Olympic-style bow. Its limbs curve away from the archer when unstrung. This is the only bow type used in the Olympic Games.
- Best for: Beginners who want to compete in Olympics
- Draw weight for beginners: 18-24 lbs (youth), 24-30 lbs (adults)
Compound Bow
Uses a system of cams (pulleys) that provide a "let-off" — reducing the holding weight at full draw by 65-85%. Extremely accurate.
- Best for: Precision-focused archers, hunters
- Draw weight for beginners: 30-40 lbs (adjustable)
Barebow
A recurve bow shot without sights, stabilizers, or clickers. Growing rapidly in popularity with its own World Archery category.
- Best for: Traditionalists, instinctive shooters
